Let's Recycle Right — A Few Small Changes Make a Big Difference Our community does a wonderful job making the effort to recycle — and that's something to be proud of! But we've recently learned that some well-meaning habits are actually making it harder for recycling to be processed properly. Here's a friendly guide to help everyone get it right.
Paper - Most paper is welcome in the recycling cart. The exceptions: anything soiled (like a greasy pizza box), shredded paper, waxed paper, or metallic paper. When in doubt, toss it in the regular trash.
Metal Cans - Yes to aluminum and steel cans — just give them a quick rinse first. That's all it takes!
Cardboard - Cardboard is great for recycling, with one important exception: boxes that held liquids. That means milk cartons, juice boxes, broth containers, and yes — box wine — are not accepted. These have special liners that make them hard to process.
Plastics - Plastic containers labeled #1 through #7 are all accepted. You can even leave the lids on! Just make sure they're rinsed and clean. Anything not in that range goes in the regular trash.
The Biggest Surprise: Don't Nest Your Recycling! Many of us naturally want to pack things neatly — putting glass bottles, cans, and newspapers inside a box, for example. But this actually creates a big problem at the processing facility.
Please keep all items loose in your recycling cart so they can be sorted easily. Thank you for caring about our community and our environment. A little know-how goes a long way — and now we've all got it!
